Objectives .At-home bleaching with peroxide has become a standard procedure in North America. In recent years, higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in office bleach have gained popularity due to faster bleaching results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an in-office bleach program (Rembrandt Smile) which contained a stabilized 35% H2O2 bleaching gel and a xenon light source with an arch illuminator. Method. 28 healthy adult volunteers were screened for the trial. The shade measurement was taken at baseline from the middle third of both maxillary central incisors, the cuspids and the lower central incisor, with a Bioform color order shade guide. Only patients with a shade measurement darker than B65 qualified for the study. 22 subjects entered the study. The condition of hard tissue and soft tissue were noted for each subject prior to the study. Standard prophylaxis was performed before the bleaching. After the usage of a cheek retractor, Paint-On Dental Dam was applied and cured to protect the gingival tissue. Virtuoso Lightning Bleaching Gel was then syringed on the labial of the front teeth. The arch illuminator was then positioned at 1 cm away from the bleached teeth. The light exposure was programmed at 5 seconds exposure which continued for 50 minutes.Results. At the end of the bleach, the condition of the gingiva and the shade of the teeth were evaluated and recorded with 35 mm photography. Shade guide measurements showed a signigicant improvement in tooth whitening, 10.5 tabs compared to baseline (p<0.01). No adverse effects were noted on the hard or soft tissue
.Conclusion. It was concluded that Virtuoso Lightning Bleaching Gel is safe, and with the aid of the arch illuminator, a significant whitening effect can be achieved in a relatively short time.
