In the last years, an alarming increase in giardiasis, according to different reports of the Health World Organization, was achieved. The clinic symptomatology of this infection goes from cyst asymptomatic excretion to persistent and severe diarrheas, that could produce a syndrome of bad absorption. 362 children, from 8 months to 14 years, with Giardia lamblia, were studied. The diagnosis of giardiasis was confirmed by fecal heces or duodenal gavage. OLEOZON was dosified by drops or capsules, according to age, twice per day during 10 days, for 2 cycles of treatment with 7 days interval without medication. Approximately, 10 days after finishing the second cycle of treatment, a duodenal gavage was performed. As healing criterion, the absence of cysts or trophozoites of Giardia lamblia in fecal heces and in duodenal gavage were considered.
With the pattern of treatment proposed, 76 % of cured children and 89 % of clinical improvement (elimination of symptoms) in the remaining not cured patients were achieved.
